About
About this guide
Get Fit PGH is a small, independent set of plain-language guides to getting more physically active, written for people in Pittsburgh.
Who it is for
The guides are written for adults in Pittsburgh who want to be more active and would like to know what public health agencies actually recommend, without sales pitches or fitness jargon. That includes people starting from very little activity, people returning after a break, and older adults. No previous knowledge is assumed.
Pittsburgh is the audience, not a different set of rules. The health guidance is national. Where a guide mentions a local public facility or service, it relies only on the official page of the city, county or state body that runs it.
How it was made
The site was planned and drafted with the help of an AI system, working from the documents listed in each guide's sources box: the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans and pages from HHS, the CDC, the National Institutes of Health, MedlinePlus, the National Weather Service, the Environmental Protection Agency's AirNow, NHTSA, and official City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania pages. Each cited web page was fetched on 2026-10-22, and the specific figures and statements in the guides were checked against the text of those pages on that date.
The guides have not yet been reviewed by an independent human editor or by a health professional. Until they have, read them as a careful starting point, and treat the cited documents and your own doctor as the authority.
The illustrations and the logo were drawn for this site as simple vector graphics. They are diagrams, not photographs, and do not show real people or real places in detail.
What it does not do
- It does not give medical advice, diagnose anything or tell you to start, stop or change any treatment.
- It does not recommend gyms, studios, clubs, products, equipment, supplements or brands, and does not list private businesses.
- It does not list opening hours, prices or event dates. Official pages are the place for those.
- It carries no advertising, affiliate links or sponsored content, and sells nothing.
- It sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking scripts.
Independence
This site is not run by, endorsed by or connected with the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, any federal agency, any health system or any fitness business. It is also not connected with anyone who used the getfitpgh.com address in the past.
