How these guides are written and kept accurate

The rules this guide follows, so readers can judge how much weight to give what they read here. Last updated 2026-10-22.

Health information

Physical activity is a health topic, and health information can cause harm if it is wrong or misapplied. So the guides are general information only. They do not diagnose, do not suggest doses or supplements, do not recommend products, and do not tell anyone to start, stop or change a treatment. Every page carries a health notice saying so, and the guides point readers to a doctor or another qualified professional wherever the agencies themselves do.

Sources

Health guidance on this site comes only from U.S. government bodies: the Department of Health and Human Services and its Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans (2nd edition), the CDC, the National Institutes of Health (including the National Institute on Aging and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute) and MedlinePlus. Safety advice comes from the National Weather Service, the Environmental Protection Agency's AirNow and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Blogs, vendors, fitness influencers and commercial studies are not used.

Each guide names the documents it relies on in a sources box and shows the date it was last reviewed against them. Where the sources are silent, the guides say so rather than filling the gap.

Local facts

Any statement about a Pittsburgh-area facility or service comes from the official page of the government body that runs it: the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, the Allegheny County Health Department or the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The guides do not name private businesses and do not list opening hours, prices or event dates, which change too often to keep accurate here.

In one line

If a government source does not support a statement, it does not belong in a guide.

Writing

  • Plain language, with terms such as "moderate intensity" explained the first time they appear.
  • Source material is paraphrased, not copied.
  • Worked examples are invented to illustrate a point. They describe no real person or business, and each is labelled as an example.
  • No statistics are invented. Figures come from the cited documents.

In this first edition, cited documents are named but not linked, so that every page can be reviewed before any outbound link is added. Any links added later will go only to pages that help the reader. Paid or sponsored links, if there ever are any, will be labelled as such on the page and marked with the appropriate link attributes.

Reviews and corrections

On 2026-10-22, each cited web page was fetched once and the figures and statements in the guides were checked against its text. One cited document, the full Physical Activity Guidelines PDF, was confirmed reachable but its text was not machine-checked; the figures attributed to the guidelines are the ones repeated on the CDC and HHS web pages that were checked. Guides will be re-checked when their sources change. A correction that changes the meaning of a guide will be noted at the end of that guide with the date. There is no contact route yet, so corrections currently come from that re-checking rather than from reader reports.

Use of AI

The guides were drafted with an AI system from the cited documents. They have not had independent human editorial review or review by a health professional. The about page describes how the site was made.
